Worship
The style of our worship strives to be in keeping with what we believe to be the character of God. Therefore, reverence, holiness, mystery, and awe mark our worship. God is the subject of our worship. We seek to worship according to the instruction of Jesus, “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:24)
Worship at UBC relies heavily on lay leadership. Our members participate each Sunday by leading litanies, prayers and scripture readings. Children are included as well as the Minister of Family Life presents a short “Children’s Sermon” each Sunday. The pastor’s sermons are biblically based and designed to educate, uplift, challenge, and inspire. The music is of the highest quality and is accompanied by both organ and piano.
UBC follows the liturgical calendar and observes Advent, Ash Wednesday, Lent, Palm Sunday, Holy Week, Maundy Thursday, Easter, Pentecost, and World Communion Sunday. Special emphases, worship aids, colors, and banners highlight each season or Holy day.
Our Purpose
The purpose of University Baptist Church is, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to assemble and worship God, to love and encourage one another, to proclaim the gospel of Christ, to minister to all people, and to live in peace.
In a world where difficult issues remain, University Baptist Church continues its commitment to be a church where “there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for [we] are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28 )
